How to dance the 5th Position Break in Rumba

Timing

Rumba is counted in slow, quick, quick, which equals one measure. You can do a 5th position break to either the right or the left with the count slow, quick, quick.

Leader’s Footwork:

Forward Half of Box Step:

Starting in closed dance position – Left foot forward, Right foot to the side and then close the left foot to the right foot and change weight.

5th Position Break to Right:

Right foot to the side and then take a step back and across with your left foot in 5th position for a rock step and replace your weight onto your right foot. This should cause your torso to open up slightly to the left.
