Inside Underarm Turn Left for follower:

Right foot back. The leader will raise your right hand and bring it in front of your face to initiate a inside underarm turn to the left.

To start the turn you will begin to turn through your hip 1/4 of a turn on your planted standing foot (right foot). This will then allow you to take your left foot forward in the new direction. Once you take the step it will be a quick pivot 3/4 turn to the left.

Once the turn is complete and you are facing your partner again your right foot should already be under your body and you will change weight to your right foot. (slow, quick, quick)

Forward Half of Box Step:

Left foot forward, Right foot to the side and then close the left foot to the right foot and change weight. (slow, quick, quick)

Rumba Technique Tips:

Inside Turn vs Outside Turn

Inside Turn:

When leading an inside turn you will bring you arm across your face. This will signal to the lady to turn inside.

An inside turn for the follower will always be a pivot action which means he/she will be turning in the same direction as their standing foot.

Outside Turn:

When leading an outside turn you will raise the arm up and away from your body signalling to the follower to turn.

The first turning action for an outside turn is considered a spiral turn because the turn happens in the direction opposite of the standing foot.
